Northwest AI Hub Workforce Development Program

The Northwest AI Hub Workforce Development Program builds on the existing semiconductor and AI workforce training initiatives at UC Davis, aiming to develop a highly skilled workforce in advanced technology fields.

Eligibility and Focus Areas:

Open to Undergraduates and Community College Students: The program is available to undergraduates from four-year universities and two-year community colleges in Northern California.

Internship Fields: Opportunities are available in:

  • Semiconductor manufacturing
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning
  • Robotics and automation
  • Data science and analytics
  • Advanced electronics and photonics

Opportunities for Northwest AI Hub Fellows:

Research Traineeships:

  • Work in UC Davis STEM labs alongside faculty and graduate students.
  • Gain hands-on experience in semiconductor fabrication, AI applications, and microelectronics.

Engineer Traineeships:

  • Engage in industry partnerships with cutting-edge technology companies.
  • Work on real-world engineering projects, including chip design, IC fabrication, and high-speed broadband communication systems.

Skill Development:

  • Hands-on learning through research and experiential training.
  • Gain expertise in cleanroom tools, chip design software, and AI-driven analytics.

Additional Training and Support:

Leadership and Professional Development:

  • Northwest AI Hub Fellows receive comprehensive training in leadership, professional development, and project management.
  • Mentorship opportunities with UC Davis faculty and industry experts.

Ongoing Support:

  • Participants are supported throughout the program by dedicated faculty, CITRIS staff, and a community of peers.
  • Access to networking events, seminars, and specialized technical workshops.

Compensation and Certification:

Stipends:

  • Fellows receive competitive stipends for participating in the program.

Certification:

  • To earn a certificate, students must complete assigned projects, attend weekly workshops, and present a final project at a concluding symposium.
